What Are the Uses of Bollards?

Governments extensively use concrete bollards for control of both vehicles and pedestrian traffic, especially in the more crowded areas of cities. People may not be normally aware of their use, so they are always marked with the appropriate signs to give the public the proper information; such as traffic bollards and parking bollards.

Concrete bollards are the main types used to ensure that vehicles follow in line and keep them from overtaking each other; though steel bollards can also be used for this purpose as well. The types of concrete bollards or steel bollards used in this manner are installed on a permanent basis so vehicles cannot just ram them easily out of their way. The concrete bollards, normally colored with bright reflector colors, invariably reflect the lights of vehicles to make sure that people driving through the areas containing them do not fail to see them. Motor Accidents usually happen if these kinds of bollards are used, unpainted and without the necessary bright reflector colors.

Another important use of bollards is for the control of pedestrian traffic.
On busy city streets you will find plastic bollards, concrete bollards and other removable bollards, either permanently installed or temporarily set up; making the areas easily seen where pedestrians can use portions of the road, safe from the motoring traffic. These types of bollards are also in bright attractive colors that will easily catch an individual’s attention. Where the pedestrian traffic varies at various times of the day, law enforcers use plastic bollards, sometimes called removable bollards, placing them at certain hours and removing them afterward when there is no use for them anymore. Traffic enforcers can just put them back in place as necessary.
The use of security bollards and barriers is another purpose served. The perimeter fencing of many compounds, either with concrete or inter-link wires, utilizes concrete bollards not only as strong posts, but also as architectural enhancers. These landscape bollards help to improve the overall appearance of the area being fenced. Owners of areas fenced this way can choose from the many beautiful designs of these decorative bollards for this kind of utilization as they are readily available in the market.
Concrete bollards also serve to hold permanently in place any pipes laid out on the ground for a variety of purposes, as strong pipe bollard sleeves. The water hydrants you see in many places normally sit on top of concrete bollards or cement bollards; serving as pipe bollard sleeves buried underground.
In the piers and wharves concrete bollards serve as mooring posts for boats to keep them tied up and in place while they are docked. On the boats themselves, in the forward, rear, and middle portions, both on the left and right sides, are smaller steel bollards to which ropes are attached for docking purposes.
Concrete bollards, for whatever purpose they are used, are a seemingly unobtrusive but very necessary ground fixture of which people should be consciously aware. Because builders design them purposely to be major items of the landscape, they certainly make the scenery look architecturally beautiful and attractive, while serving a most needed function.

There are various job opportunities in the real estate sector right from engineers, architects, supervisors, property managers to real estate agents. Real estate agency offers lucrative jobs with opportunities to earn hefty commission on sales. But to become a real estate agent most US states require a license to operate. To get a license, one needs to be aware of the various aspects of real estate like real estate law, appraisal, inspection, finance, mortgaging, investment to name a few.

Many realty schools have sprung up throughout U.S. that offers pre and post licensing courses to aspiring as well as experienced real estate agents. There are courses to be taken while getting the first license (pre-licensing courses) as well as for every renewal of the license (post licensing course). For experienced agents, there are continuing education courses, seminars etc. that keep the licensees abreast of the latest developments in the field. The no. of courses, the duration, types of permit issued etc. vary from state to state.

For example in the state of Nevada, the Nevada Commission on Postsecondary Education issues permits to brokers or broker salespersons, property management permit and business broker permit. The Nevada post licensing education requires 30 hours of class room study during first year of license renewal and 24 hours of education thereafter. The topics covered in this course include Contracts, Listings, Buyer Representation, Technology, Ethics, Advertising, Equity and Cost Sheets, Agency Relationships, Land, Disclosures, Property Management, Escrow, Financing, Negotiation and Taxes. Brokers and broker salespersons must undergo at least 3 hours of broker management course while property management permit holders must take at least 3 hours of property management course. Similarly business broker permit aspirants must undergo at least 3 hours in business brokerage.

Many of these courses are available for online enrolment and home study. Home study can be undertaken after the first renewal of license. The post licensing course is designed to help students understand the real estate field and the sales process better by practical insight into typical situations. The Nevada post licensing course can be taken at one go or in multiple sessions. In case of latter an attendance record has to be maintained by the students.

For the online continuing education course, the course materials are sent via email as PDF documents or as physical text via courier. After going through the study material and feeling comfortable about it, the student can take a quiz either online or in person at the realty school in order to receive the certificate. They can even print their own certificate after passing the quiz online! Additional classroom tuition on various topics is available to those requiring it. Flexible class schedules allow working real estate agents also to take advantage of the courses. Special courses on Mortgage Education are also available for those interested in becoming mortgage brokers and agents.
